Life can be cruel

Soccer and indeed sport is such a cruel game.

But so is life.

Liverpool football club lost in the Champions League on Tuesday night to PSG.

A team which over 2 legs was much stronger than us.

We succumbed.

We fell.

We tasted defeat at Home, something which is almost unheard of in European competition.

Today we faced Newcastle United in the Cup final and the overhang from Tuesday night coupled with the emotional fatigue was on display for all to see.

Are we making excuses – No.

Are we disappointed – Yes.

At this juncture we could say that we did not play at our best, that our strategy was wrong, but in the 94th minute Federico Chiesa scored, and the hope of every Liverpool supporter was ignited.

However, it was not to be.

We did not equalise.

We lost and after 55 years Newcastle United lifted a trophy and the elation and tears of joy that filled that club, and its supporters was something that visibly came through our TV screens.

It was a display of contrasting emotions. Disappointment vs. Elation.

Our focus is now squarely on the Premier league.

Just a week ago, we were aiming for 3 trophies and now, we may have to settle for one.

In essence, we will pick ourselves up. We will shake off the dust and we will come back from this.

Perhaps this is a painful reminder of how hard it is to win on every front, and how tremendous it is when we do.

We have seen Arne Slot and Liverpool’s reaction to Isaac Kearney and we have had a glimpse into the nature and passion and realness that flows thought the blood of the club and every one of its players.

We are not just supporters only when we win.

Our motto is that β€œWe will never walk alone”

We will walk together. In victory and in defeat.
